Dr James Chen is a fellowship-trained Urological Surgeon in Perth, Western Australia, providing comprehensive care for men with prostate cancer, kidney cancer, enlarged prostate, urinary symptoms, kidney stones and complex reconstructive urological conditions.

Dr Chen has a special interest in robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer, NanoKnife® focal therapy for localised prostate cancer, and reconstructive and functional urology. His approach combines the latest evidence-based treatments with personalised care, helping patients achieve the best possible cancer, functional and quality-of-life outcomes.

After completing his specialist Urology training in Western Australia, Dr Chen undertook advanced fellowship training in Sydney at Liverpool Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord Hospital. During this time, he trained with internationally recognised leaders in robotic, reconstructive and functional urology, gaining extensive experience in managing complex urological conditions using minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Since returning to Perth, Dr Chen has been committed to bringing advanced urological treatments to Western Australia. In March 2025, he introduced NanoKnife® focal therapy for prostate cancer at Bethesda Hospital, providing carefully selected men with a minimally invasive treatment option that aims to preserve urinary continence and erectile function while achieving excellent cancer control.

Dr Chen consults from West Leederville and Palmyra, and operates at Bethesda Hospital, St John of God Subiaco Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He treats both private and public patients and believes every patient deserves clear communication, compassionate care and access to the latest evidence-based treatments.
